The Master in Business Counseling has been designed and developed as an advanced counseling study program that assumes prior familiarity and demonstrated skills in basic concepts, attitudinal and procedural aspects of the role of the business counselor. This program offers academic training for managers in the corporate sector. (master of 120 ECTS credits).

Studies to graduate should enhance and improve specialist skills and experiences in different areas of business counseling in which the student has demonstrated previous aptitudes through previous academic performance. However, our MCA is an applied development program aimed at professional business counselors rather than academics or researchers. Therefore, the program focuses predominantly on the development of professional aptitudes and experiences already possessed.

The literal translation is to advise / counselor

The professional figure of the counselor develops initially in the United States and then in England and is aimed at all those who carry out an activity that requires a good knowledge of the human personality but who are neither psychologists nor psychotherapists.

The counselor is that person who in a professional context is able to adequately sustain a relationship with an interlocutor who manifests personal, private and emotionally significant issues.

He works as a professional able to favor the solution to a question that creates existential and / or relational distress to an individual or a group of individuals.

Specifically, the company Counselor is a professional to whom in general all the company staff can be contacted in case of relational or existential difficulties that can compromise their work.

He basically helps the client with his support to overcome the personality problems that prevent him from the full and free expression of his human potential.

The counselor is neither a psychologist nor a psychotherapist, therefore he does not give psychological consultations, he does not practice any type of therapy, he does not dispense any type of treatment or drugs, he is therefore not authorized to exercise the aforementioned professions, which on the contrary are publicly regulated by the Health Law of the Canton of Ticino of November 18, 1954 and relative Regulation of September 4, 1979.

The counselor is neither a psychologist nor a psychotherapist, therefore not from psychological consultations, does not practice any type of therapy, does not dispense any type of treatment or drugs, is therefore not authorized to exercise the aforementioned professions, which on the contrary are publicly regulated by the Health Law of the Canton of Ticino of November 18, 1954 and relative Regulation of September 4, 1979.

This program offers the student the opportunity to:

  • a broad familiarity with the professional functions of business counseling that contribute to the organizational process and business management;
  • a familiarity with the current currents of the theoretical-practical debate of corporate counseling and a high degree of understanding of their complexity and flexibility;
  • an ability to analyze innovations and developments in the subject of corporate counseling;
  • sensitivity to the social responsibilities of the company counselor;
  • an open orientation to learning about problem solving aspects;
  • a high level of ability to analyze, evaluate and synthesize in the solution of business problems;
  • an ability to stimulate, guide and focus the discussion on the science of business counseling based on a balanced evaluation of didactic experiences on the one hand and professional experiences on the other.

The duration of the course varies between a minimum of 12 months and a maximum of 24 months, and depends on the evaluation of the curriculum vitae of each student and the educational credits held, evaluated according to an equivalent system to the European or ECTS one. The professional experiences already possessed at the management level are helpful for a shortening of the course.

Candidates in possession of a three-year short degree (ECTS 180 equivalent credits) can apply; in the absence of a short degree, candidates must demonstrate at least 5 years of professional experience in the field of business counseling. Those who do not have a high school diploma can enroll if they have at least 10 years of management experience. In any case, admission is subject to an evaluation of the curriculum vitae of each candidate and the educational credits held. To access the final certification / thesis exam, the candidate, after passing the required tests, will have to carry out an in-depth written thesis on one of the subjects in the study plan.
